The inaugural “Woodenbong Yowie Country Market” was an outstanding success on all counts. Too many heads to count, many, many people took advantage of the day, which weather wise was perfect, they not only took advantage of all the varied market stalls, but also taking this opportunity to have a look around Woodenbong and appreciate the beautiful surroundings, including the magnificent Mt Lindesay. All stall holders reported having a most successful day, with all opting to return for the next market event, along with newcomers who have already shown interest.
Attractions included resident, versatile musician John Howley who delighted his audience with a wonderful rendition of Mandolin and Guitar playing. Accompanied by Andyroo on guitar and singers and jammers joined in to create an enlightened atmosphere. Buskers entertained the crowds scattered around the Woodenbong Public Hall grounds including banjo, harmonica, fiddle and acoustic trio.
Face painting brightened the hearts of many youngsters and even some older market goers and a feature of the day was no tears, no tantrums all children with happy faces enjoying the on-site playground, the children’s movie matinee in the main hall proved to be very popular.
Adults were catered for with a huge assortment of products available to suit every taste including pottery, ceramics, wrought iron, wood carving, jewellery, artwork, knitting and hand crafts, cakes, jams and preserves, bric-a-brac, second hand goods, Yowie Souvenirs plus loads more without forgetting the Ice Cream van.
The “Yowie” is traditionally a very elusive creature usually shying away from public attention but the day brought forth an appearance from a local genus that proved anything but shy, only too willing to be photographed with Kay McCullock the qualified Naturopath from Killarney and to play chasings with all the children and then departing to its habitat.
The committee members who ran this hugely successful Market were overwhelmed with the support of the local community and the visiting patrons who travelled from far and wide, they are looking forward to the next Market .
Future Markets will be held on the LAST SATURDAY of every month.
